"Here's Looking At You, Kid"

That's right folks...

Tonight I put pen to paper ( figuratively speaking ) as I reminisce about one iconic movie headlining one of the best actors that ever donned a fedora and graced that silver screen. Humphrey Bogart nailed it. Larger than life and taller than he was in person, Bogart really owned that world.

I remember growing up only a few of those old black and white treasures from Hollywood that my grandparents, and my dad talked about. Dad was more John Wayne and Louis La' Mour but he did respect Bogey. I could tell you my grandparents love of the man and his work. Pops looked at him as the man's man, my granny I think crushed on him
He was mister smooth, cool and yep he was the Man.

Now we recognize that iconic line that made so many girls blush and smile but what many do not know... Myself included for a long time, Bogart made Casablanca in more ways than one.

I will include this link since I am typing on a rather temperamental smart phone tonight, and a bit sleepy lol

Bare with me folks I'll get it up in a jiff..

Now I ask you if you knew that unforgettable line "Here's Looking At You, Kid" was not scripted? See that was completely Bogart. Word is he had his eye on the beautiful Ingrid Bergman between shooting as she had started playing poker with the gang and boning up on her English. So he more than personalized the role. And we can't forget her "We will always have Paris"
It was an incredible story wasn't it? Every element and event from that time. And even today we can try to apply to our own "Hill of beans"
What you take from it is quite personal but I bet you walk away grinning saying wow. He had style and charisma y'all.

Now to more "personal" from me.
In elementary school I didn't get along with or agree with my vice principal Mr. Crabtree. Well sir I will now say thanks for the movie, was a favorite of yours and one day I got curious
It is an awesome movie and one of my favourites. And he gets his girl in the end! 😉

How's it hanging y'all?

Short, shriveled, and to the left?

A movie line funny but really a bit of truth at times in humorously said hilarity. Name that tune?

Liar! Liar!   Yep ol Jim Carry nailed it in uproarious comedic fashion. But folks that's a far cry from tonight's post.

And another on the other side of the spectrum...

Marked For Death

Steven Seagal's finest and most drawing movie for myself. I guess I am a bit of a crazy one lol. Oh well and inspirational moments to this Mustard Man who did earn his badges some years later hungering for that death defying life affirming moment...

Who knew? Was all about a dream..a girl? A chance? Or an adventure to prove I was a man? Lol, either way that is a given...

I am Mustard Man

Now let's cut the rambling fluff and get to the real theme and essence of my meanderings...

See the spirit of this blog gifted to me by that special blogger we should remember and hold a lil affection for. I'm not stumping for an audience for her returned to post status but she is one of a kind.

No. The meat of the story is not an excuse to deriliction of duty or any fancy word excuse. It has been a very long time.

I'm in a mood. Lost so much and lived a lot since that last post. Mine wasn't just to entertain or make you laugh. It really was to remind and remember tales, trips, movies, automotive, or simply heritage.

Halcion and warm feelings of yesteryear.

All good mostly. And it was to invoke those memories. Good for me and random readers alike.

Hold your memories dear y'all. Be it your own personal triumphs of smiley thoughts? Or hand me down dreams and stories that somehow stamped your life or forever in your mind became a part of you.

I love the tales and the memories I myself made.

Now I pose a question to you...

Do you dare share
your fondest memories here to my blog so it is immortalized? Take a chance and let it flow. Surprise yourself and me if you dare.

Is it an early rememberance or maybe a thought of a vision? The car, the Andy Griffith type moment of dad and son or daughter with barefeet and a fishin' pole?

Or the one that got away? The heart-rending moment that you regret, remember and replay as you second guess yourself over coffee in mornings or anytime after?

Perhaps a great triumph? Did you Win? Wanna brag?

Were you the Prom King and Queen? The Cheerleader or Quarterback? Are you the chess club or the Techie? Y'all have all got a story to tell...

All things remind us, shape us, mold is, excite us, or destroy us. The choice is yours.

That pretty girl of your dreams? The first adventures? The other things that made us?

Share if here. Closure of glowing reviews of triumph and disaster as well. Come post to me what you remember. It may be the release you have needed for so long...

I'll end this thing tonight by saying the past has been an amazing ride. Good times and bad times we shall remember. But y'all? The present does open the door to our future...

An unexpected return to post perhaps but think about it folks. And take care and feel free to contact me and share your life affirming moments and memories.

Just remember when...

Get 'er Done ;)

"I can get you ten years in Levenworth, or Eleven years in Twelveworth. Or Five and Ten at Woolworth" -- Groucho Marx

Howdy Y'all thanks for dropping by today. I wanted to reminisce a little and talk about an icon from days past that should live in our memories forever...

                                              the iconic F.W. WOOLWORTH COMPANY!

Yep the good ole Woolworth's.

The F. W. Woolworth Company (often referred to as Woolworth's, or Woolworth) was a retail company that was one of the original pioneers, and arguably the most successful American and international five-and-dime stores, setting trends and creating the modern retail model which stores follow worldwide today.

The first Woolworth store was opened by Frank Winfield Woolworth on February 22, 1878, as "Woolworth's Great Five Cent Store" in Utica, New York. Though it initially appeared to be successful, the store soon failed. Searching for a new location, a friend suggested Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Using the sign from the Utica store, Frank opened his first successful "Woolworth's Great Five Cent Store" on July 18, 1879, in Lancaster. Frank brought his brother, Charles Sumner Woolworth, into the business.

The two Woolworth brothers pioneered and developed merchandising, direct purchasing, and sales and customer service practices commonly used today. Despite growing to be one of the largest retail chains in the world through most of the 20th century, increased competition led to its decline beginning in the 1980's. The chain went out of business in July 1997, when the company decided to focus on the Foot Locker division and renamed itself Venator Group. By 2001, the company focused exclusively on the sporting goods market, changing its name to the present Foot Locker, Inc.

It helped changed the world honestly. Revolutionized commerce and convenience for everyone. Created jobs and made everything available to the masses. And it was affordable. Not just a shop where almost everything could be found. Akin the the local General Store it offered a meeting place that friends got together to view the wares on the shelves and do some window shopping. A lunch counter was also a focal point. Yes it became a major focal point for the civil rights in the 60's too. And I will include a little YouTube video to mark that moment to be fair. But this post is far from a rant on equality I assure you.

We take so many things for granted just because it's there and we learn to get used to it, embrace it ( sometimes grudgingly I admit lol ) But before a host of Walmart stores took over everything and a few Dollar Stores down on the corner of our respective towns or cities we must look back and remember where they came from. Did you know old Sam Walton didn't start out with the superstore.

Walmart started its existence as a chain of Ben Franklin franchises run by Sam Walton. Apparently the franchise agreement was pretty liberal on naming requirements, as they were run as "Walton's Five and Dime." The 5 & 10's survived for a while after the Wal-Mart discount stores opened, and operated independently of the Ben Franklin system after that point. Wal-Mart was started as a proof-of-concept mode discount store to be affiliated with the Ben Franklin system, but Sam Walton withdrew from the system over disagreements regarding buying product outside of the BF system.

Sure I understand times have to change and with it the game. The old is replaced with the new and time marches on...

I'm from the country and I like it that way so I had to add that one lol.

But since I an romanticizing the past here I have another for ya. I think if you click and give it a listen you would agree with the spirit of this blog. See it isn't just about a place or just a person. It is about the memories we can all share and look back with a smile and fondness of that bygone era. Without it where would we be now, if at all? So give her a listen and let the words paint you a memory, maybe your grandparents, or theirs..who knows..maybe one of those old stores was where the magic happened...

I hope you enjoyed that. And here is another classic from wayback from the iconic Bing Crosby!

I do miss those times, even ones I wasn't around yet to experience. Makes me feel like I missed out> I hope some readers drop in and read this here blog that were fortunate enough to experience those times. And I would dearly like a comment and share some stories or memories of your Woolworth's adventures. Maybe a related memory stemming from a chance encounter or a story handed down from there. Maybe it is where someone's folks met for the first time, or maybe a relative's first job..anything. Just a story from the past you would like to drop into the time capsule that is this blog...remember the past forever. I say remember our past and fight for our future in the present. Let this be that one small step.

Now I will include that YouTube video remembering the iconic for better or worse..sit in at the old Woolworth's lunch counter in Greensboro, North Carolina in the 1960's

Yep Woolworth's was quite an icon in good and bad. What I wanted to do with this post was bring the good memories to light but warranted a respectful nod to things not quite so great. I won't appologize for this being a bit long winded and a tad random. Just don't forget the past y'all. And Oh Brother Where Art Thou was awesome flick lol. I remember my granny Roberts seeing it and just cackling, pure enjoyment and the Woolworth brought back a few memories too. She left us some years back and won't get to hear me tell her about this story. I enjoyed researching some things for this one and wish I had paid more attention to the stories handed down to me or overheard as I grew up. It fascinated me and often times made me grin; that being said..

Feel free to share a story or two down below and take care out there folks. Drop back in and see us sometime soon...

I Wonder How Old This Thing Really Is??

Double-edge or “safety razors” have been around since the early 1900's, but it's use during the last couple decades has declined, their usage has been mostly limited to a small contingent of shaving purists. That being said, remember the brush and the cup and the art of the shave..

Howdy Y'all and welcome to my blog post tonight. It is a little different but I assure you it has a purpose and I will ask your help...

I wondered what we could remember tonight..maybe some huge past event that shaped our world or not..

As I dried off from a little hike in the crazy weather we have been having..the snow, the freeze and today..rain! Good times to be sure lol... I noticed I was a might stubbly and could use a shave...

Then it hit me!! A story reminding myself of growing up. Made me think of my papaw and the weekends going there and staying at their little spread. I so loved those times, high up in my mountains here. It was to me Heaven on Earth back then... so many stories I could relate to the readers. The woods and stories of my brother and I and my cousins at times adventuring..yes we were lil explorers and it was great. But tonight the story I am sharing is one lots of readers can relate to. Remember growing up and for instance..your grandpa or your dad was shaving.. remember thinking that is so cool and I can't wait til I am old enough to do that!
But thinking maybe by then I will just grow a beard that rivals even Grizzly Adams! Hmm lets have a look see...

Still reckon you could? Or want to try?

Yep makes me think back to that time. But remember watching and maybe getting swatted by the good ole shave cream and  a "beard" made you laugh..was a cool big boy bonding moment..
Yep borrowed pics but it fit..

Now I am gonna tell you more about my moment of inspiration...this image below is my Papaw's ol safety razor...

I was at the Dollar Tree awhile back and saw that rise shaving cream and the since the 50's slogan and I had too...it made me think back to then. I know back in the day shaving was an art..an art of Manliness!

I wondered how old his ole razor was and I know he had used it since..well since I can remember so I figured I could ask if anyone could give a guess on it. And share a memory of your past just like what we are talking about here.

And now in closing and feel free to share your opinion but through trial and error and some free flowing blood from random nicks as I tried using a new version that was a bit gimmicky and shiny...
A neat little tool that comes at an as seen on T.V. price tag..mine was $19.95..the new safety razor as advertised by Mr Pawnstars himself. And Mr Rick I'm not knocking you but.. your nifty lil toy lost..bet the old man would agree with me...

See shiny!

But all that glitters is not gold...

I found these clips from good ole You Tube and had to throw em in.

But I reminisce that Micro I got for a stocking stuffer for my dad for Christmas 2013..sadly he passed on the 9th that December and never got to try it. Rest in Peace Dad, I Love You.

I guess Heaven was in need of another Truck Drivin' Good Ole Boy  to bring in the load up there...

And I made myself a lil misty just now...(moment of silence please bow your heads)

And now the finale...I eventually tried the Micro..it works but trust me...do without it! Or collect it..shiny!!

The head to head..or blades to my face..challenge...

And the winner is...(drum roll please)

Old School Rocks!

Yes Grampus WINS!!!

Take Care Y'all and come back to see what's next. Meanwhile do leave a memory or opinion if you're of a mind to..and thanks in advance...

From The First Valentine's Day Card Til Now. Never Stop Saying I Love You! And Mean It...

It wasn’t until 1415 that the first Valentine’s Day card was sent (by the then-imprisoned Duke of Orleans), and it was only in 1493 that the legend first emerged that St. Valentine married couples in secret. At that point we have the makings of a romantic saint’s day. But unless you’re an imprisoned French noble or a big Chaucer fan, you’re well within your rights to give this one a miss.

Yes readers today is that special. We can surprise our love and say Happy Valentines Day...and I will do that right now...

                  HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY CARRIE!!

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL GIRL EVER AND THE GIRL I WILL LOVE                              FOREVERMORE...
Today is a very special day to tell your special someone how much you love them and how much you care. It really doesn't take much or cost a lot of money. Just let them know how special they are and how much you love them. Tell 'em what they mean to you. Plan a special movie night or a romantic outing is always nice. But folks sometimes it is the little things that mean so much. Be creative and just give them something that is from your heart. And if it is a cute Disney movie moment or just a special treat, maybe a honey-do list...just give your all and make this a memory they wont forget to remember with a smile...

                 now who could forget that...

And I admit I had to leave this post and reminding y'all to never forget and make new memories too. And I am waiting on the oven and couldn't leave y'all hanging lol.

And I wanted to dedicate this day to my little fry girl and tell her how much I love her.

Y'all take care and share this day with your special someone, make it memorable and I had to leave you this one ...

Remember The Old T.V. Tray?

Now when I was a kid I remember the old T.V. Trays my mom had stashed in the corner and only brought out on movie nights with my little brother and me. We would have a pepperoni and cheese sandwich or some other yummy morsels that we loved, they were kind of a rarity at our house. I can still picture our living room with lights dimmed just right as the family gathered around the t.v. for a good movie. Mom and Dad (when he didn't have the graveyard shift) on the couch, my brother and I on our chosen perches, a chair or the love seat (sometimes we would fight for it) and wait excitedly for the movie and for that snack Mmm Mmm good.

Now that's a keeper eh?

But many times we gathered for family night and it was awesome!! Now it is nothing but a distant memory for so many. And I am not fussing or harping about every parent and kid has a smartphone, or always playing their video games and chatting up Facebook or Twitter pals so they are to busy to sit down with the folks a few nights a week. Heck we all have become dependent or slaves of sorts to the internet or our respective providers and phone carriers. I got nothing against it  really, or room to talk lol. But gather around and share a few memories with Mustard Man and maybe y'all will agree after this that maybe it's time to make time for that. Maybe call your mom up for a chat and say thanks for the movie nights or the little snacks before bed. Decide to give your kids the chance to experience what we had growing up. It's easier now we are all online, we have Netflix, Hulu, Crackle and a hundred other sites including Amazon...

Let's make that re connection and share the memories folks

Now for a glimpse at some of those late night movies we were entreated to at my house growing up in the Eighties

These are just a few of the Awesome Eighties blockbusters we grew up with and only a handful of movie nights shared with the family. Lotta laughs and lotta love were in those nights and plenty excitement. I just wanted to share a few fond family night movie memories shared to help bring back memories for y'all and hope they made you smile and miss those times when you were growing or if you're not quite there yet maybe help you think up a movie night in the making memory of your own, or wanna share with in the comments below...

Thanks for dropping by y'all. Take care, come back soon, and share a memory or two below.

Legendary Super Bowl Brew Ha Ha of Epic Proportions!

THAT'S RIGHT FOOTBALL FANS...REMEMBER THE BUD BOWL??

                                       It was 1989...I remember well...

We all gathered around to celebrate an American tradition....a right of passage for some...

I was nine and a big fan of Elway and the Denver Broncos! http://www.footballdb.com/teams/nfl/denver-broncos/roster/1989
and they faced these ol boys...

http://www.footballdb.com/teams/nfl/san-francisco-49ers/roster/1989

My little brother, my dad ( a Dallas Cowboys fan) and some of his buddies rooted for...
  1. The San Francisco 49ers
Winner of The Super Bowl in 1989

It was later said this was John Elway's worst game..unfortunately for some...

But disheartened fans and well everyone got to be the first witnesses of the very first Bud Bowl!

Bud Bowl

The Bud Bowl was a stop motion animated Super Bowl advertising campaign first aired in 1989, and sporadically during the 1990's. It served as an advertisement for Anheuser-Busch's Budweiser family of beers. It featured Budweiser bottles playing a football game against Bud Light bottles. And sports fans it was um quite a show!

I could ramble on and recap the entire event play by play for the Super Bowl and the iconic first Bud Bowl but I think I will share this little trip down memory lane via You Tube.... I encourage you to grab a stool and order up a tall one..even if it is only root beer or a glass of milk ...just remember when...

It seems I ain't the only one who misses these so I figured I would add this link i found... https://www.facebook.com/BringBacktheBudBowl/photos_stream

Good Times Y'all, good memories..and I would be remiss not to add a few other Super Bowl Commercials from this back in time trip...it's after all part of the show ;)

and who could forget...

and gotta remember ...

the Madden Legacy began...

and a final note..the making of..Bud Bowl 1...an interesting read..

I hope it leaves ya with a smile., a laugh, a good memory and above all a urge to come back and visit this here blog and see what I might have in store for you next time...

But before you go I will give a link to a new blog by my little fry that I got a kick out of and I bet y'all do too...
